August arrives and with it, the long-awaited Gràcia festival in Barcelona. After two editions marked by the coronavirus (the one in 2020 cancelled, and the one in 2021 barely celebrated), this 2022 is the return to normality. Fiestas will be held from August 15 to 21, and the Fundació Festa Major de Gràcia has prepared more than 900 free activities for all types of audiences.
In total, there will be 23 decorated streets with very diverse themes: polar bears, New York, ‘Money Heist’, Vikings, Polynesia or Christmas. Once again, the squares regain their prominence. In addition, new places are incorporated: Sol, with a folk program; Dones del 36, which hosts gender planning; and the Bailén space, where Dàmaris Gelabert, Lildami, Maria Jaume and the Orfeó Gracienc perform. Plaça del Diamant and Plaça de Joanic also join forces to offer different events.
To make it a safe party for everyone, a “purple point” is set up every day in Plaça de la Revolucion, offering advice, support and information. The Guàrdia Urbana and the Mossos d’Esquadra (local police) have also established three safe itineraries to prevent criminal conduct and against sexual freedom: the first, from Plaça Lesseps, passing through Gran de Gràcia and ending in Diagonal; the second, from Gal·la Placídia through Gràcia and Joanic and ending in Bruniquer; and, the last, from Lesseps to Torrent de la Olla and Córcega.
