These are general requirements to open a bank account in big branches as BBVA, Banco Santander, Caixa Bank if you are a foreigner:
- Be of legal age (18 years or older)
- Have the necessary documentation. This should be (depending on the case):
- DNI: for foreigners who have Spanish nationality
- NIE: for EU Spanish residents
- TIE: for non-EU residents in Spain
- Passport: to open a bank account in Spain as a foreigner
Due to the current economic and political situation in the world, banks started to ask for more information, they may request a payroll, an employment contract, or the latest income tax return paper. In most cases, non-EU citizens are asked to prove their income in euros or dollars.
