If you are legally present in Spain on any visa or document, including a tourist Schengen visa – you can directly apply for a three-year residence permit, which can later be renewed for an additional two years.

Apply at Spanish Consulate

You can apply for a one-year visa at the Spanish consulate in your home country or country of residence. Upon your arrival in Spain, this visa can be converted into a three-year residence permit.

Documents Required for Application

Complete Scanned Passport Pages

Scan all pages of your passport. For proof of entry, provide either a clear entry stamp if Spain was your first EU country or a declaration of entry if you entered from another EU country.

Certificate of No Criminal Record

All applicants over 18 must submit a certificate of no criminal record from their country of citizenship or from countries where they have lived in the last 2 years. This document should have an apostille and be translated by a sworn translator.

Declaration of No Criminal Record

Fill out and sign the government pre-approved form declaring no criminal record within the last five years.

Employment or Service Contract

Provide your employment contract, remote work permit, and company extract. The contract should be long-term, specify your position, income details, and include confirmation that your employer has been registered for over a year.

Bank Statements

Submit bank statements for the last three months showing regular income. For self-employed individuals, also include invoices issued to clients during this period.

CV and Proof of Experience

Include your curriculum vitae and proof of professional experience, such as a diploma relevant to your job or documentation confirming at least three years of experience in your field.

Spanish Health Insurance

Provide proof of Spanish health insurance with no copayments, no exclusion periods, coverage for all family members, and a minimum coverage amount of €30,000.

Application Forms and Fee Payment

Complete and sign the required application forms (MI-T for you, MI-F for family members) and pay the state fee of €73.26 per applicant.
